ASpencer van Zyl, is a passionate and dedicated 13-year-old cyclist who has achieved remarkable milestones in a relatively short period. He began cycling in August 2021 and has since shown exceptional talent, discipline, and an unwavering love for the sport. Spencer trains five times a week, focusing on skills development, track sessions, and long-distance road rides. When possible, he supplements his training with strength and conditioning work at the gym. His commitment has led to consistent podium finishes in XCO, Road & Track, most notably, the title of South African U/13 Road Champion, Criterium Champion, and Time Trial Champion for 2024. In addition to local competitions, Spencer has successfully completed three Cape Town Cycle Tours:

• In 2023 (age 10), he completed the 46 km event.
• In 2024 (age 11), he finished the 109 km race in 4 hours and 8 minutes.
• In 2025 (age 12), he improved his time to an impressive 3 hours and 10 minutes, finishing 1st in his age category (out of 68 U/15 riders) and 1,517th overall out of 18,430 participants.

Spencer will join the Stichting Ondersteuning Wielersport (S.O.W.) – Cycling Support Foundation to participate in the European Youth tour of Assen in the Netherlands, taking place from 28 July to 1 August 2025. This prestigious 5-day event includes various road cycling disciplines and will provide Spencer with the invaluable opportunity to compete internationally against riders from countries such as Germany, Spain, Australia, Great Britain, and Ireland.
